Artist Statement

Some say that glass art is incomplete until it is touched by the hand of the divine-- in the form of light, giving glass its spirit. Throughout time, glass has given levity to the human experience... by telling stories, as used in rituals and in daily life. Natural light, varying with time, seasons, and weather—affects glass based on its source—and all influence the color and experience of the glass.

By exposing the light in one place and revealing it in another, I discovered I can express a mysterious and interestingly alive landscape, This newest body of work employs “boxed” light—Literally capturing this element by trapping a small LED behind the glass to illuminate a focal point. This exploration unveiled possibilities that simply placing a glass piece in a window couldn’t achieve. My light boxes capture a moment in time, holding it long enough to really savor it. This is my joyful gift of hope and renewal.

About My Techniques

The technique of fusing glass, gives me a wide range of possibilities that stained glass won’t. I fire all my pieces in a kiln used specifically for fusing glass, to 1500 degrees F. Many pieces are fired multiple times in a similar way one might come back to a painting once it's dry. My pieces are created using pre-fired "brush strokes" and shapes that get integrated into a final firing. I am not painting on the glass, I am painting with it!
