So I have a new gig! I'm still making art don't get me wrong, but i'm excited to be part of First Friday in Santa Cruz... a monthly art walk taking place on the first Friday of the month. I am curating the art for the newest project of Bradley Brown (owner and founder of Big Basin Vineyards) -- his new Tasting Room and Wine Bar at 525 Pacific Ave, Downtown Santa Cruz CA. (Beach End)
I was initially invited to present my own work there but I got inspired to involve some other great artists around town who's work I love. I mean, I WILL get around to presenting more glass work there-- I finished two mosaic pieces for the wine bar this summer, fire-pit table tops built for their patio-- but with little stock left after my big Open Studios show, i decided to reach out to a few of my favorite artists in town.
We started off with Dutch-American artist Hedwig Heerschop, Printemaker in November, and followed in December with Susanna Waddell, Encuastics. Susan Howe, painter and printmaker showed in January, and we were delighted to have Karen Potter, paintings, drawings and poetry exhibit in February with her intimate lovely paintings of her experience of insomnia in times of Covid. This month, we presented Sally Bookman, painter-- and her work will be up all month. Sally's work is about all things ordinary. But there's nothing ordinary about Sally's work. She captures the light of the ocean towns be it right here in Santa Cruz, or on world travels. Her colorful, whimsical flair is a Santa Cruz favorite. Don't miss it. But if you do, here's the line-up through the end of the year.
